Planning information for Rueglio

Alpine flying overview

Rueglio is a paragliding launch in the Italian Alps. Its recorded elevation is 1,240 m and its mapped launch aspects are SE, S, SW. Compare the live forecast at launch with winds aloft, gusts, cloud base, rain and daylight before checking current local access and airspace information.

Take-off

Takeoff sites are located on nearby mountain Bossola which is over 1400m high on the north from Rueglio. Several takeoff possibilities along the gravel road, big takeoff field at the end of the road.

Landing

There are no official landings in Rueglio however many fields around the village are big and very suitable. Avoid landing in long grass, cultivated fields or on livestock to avoid confrontation with landowners, otherwise usually they have nothing against paraglider pilots. Cavallaria and S.Elisabetta landing sites are within a reach of short XC flight. Cavallaria is just 7km away.

Access and parking

Rueglio is reachable from the road SS565 which connects Ivrea and Rivarolo. You can also reach it by driving from Lessolo, which is nearby flying site of Cavallaria. Getting to takeoff. There is a road directly from Rueglio or from the valley of Valchisella. The Valchiusella road is asphalted and goes up from the north side of the mountain. You can drive up from either side until you you reach the gravel road, then after few hundred meters you will find a road barrier which normally is closed. In any case for driving further up you need a permission from local forest ranger. However first takeoff sites are reachable already by 20min walk on that road, or 50min until the end of the road.

Local weather notes

Do not fly in foen or in strong N or W wind conditions. Flying with slight northern winds in high altitude is still possible due to valley breeze at flight altitude. Thunderstorms can form very quickly on nearby mountains. Sometimes they are blocked from view by nearby cumulus clouds.
