Take-off

To arrive on takeoff area you need to ride with the Cabin Lift ( white cabin lift) check this website to see prices of tickets http://www.tognola.it/ , when you will be near the Refuge Tognola, walk towards the Button Lift and go until the finish of it. You will see a big Antenna (Red and White) after 50mt you will see the pole with anemometer and you will be on takeoff area. Is a flat area where you can lay down your glide. Not really steep for the firts steps, after it will be steep. Sometimes, if the wind is not strong you have to run to take off. Wide grass field facing south east. The anemometer with wind arrow is located on the right side on top of a pole. It is not really good when the thermal is too strong. The thermals start at 09:00 until 12:00 (we advice to start to fly in the morning) With Wind from North, normally it is good for winter flight. In summer generally valley breeze come from southeast, as the takeoff area.

Landing

It is a Big flat area, located on North-West of the town (San Martino di Castrozza). Normally the valley breeze come from South East during the day but in the evening when the sun sets the wind could be from North. Be carefull because near it there is a helicopter landing area so just in case you hear it or see it, the good area to land is in some grass area located on South east of the San Martino di Castrozza. About the wind, keep on your mind the same rules like for the main landing area. TOPLANDING: It also possible to land at the takeoff site.

Access and parking

There are two main roads, one from Veneto (one hour by car from Bassano) and one from Trento - Bolzano. To Come from Trento, take the A22, exit at EGNA-ORA and follow the signs for 'VALLE DI FIEMME,' going through the towns of Cavalese, Moena, Predazzo. Then go towards Passo Rolle and Primerio until you reach San Martino di Castrozza. To come from Bassano go towards Trento until you see the sign for Fiera di Primiero, after Fiera continue to San Martino di Castrozza.

Local weather notes

Weather Info: http://www.meteotrentino.it http://www.arpav.veneto.it http://www.tognola.it/ Pay particular attention to moderate winds from West - North and North-West in general, in these conditions, the area becomes very dangerous and turbulent in summer. In any case, the flight in spring and summer in the central hours (12:00 to 16:00) is only recommended for experienced pilots sometime its easy to get RainStorm during the central hours.) just check the weather before to plan to come here. Anyway towards Morning it is possible for less experienced pilots to make a beautiful soaring flights (South, Southeast Takeoff).
