Planning information for Marske
Take-off
Take off is from the lumpy, fairly abrupt edge. Find a lump where you can get your wings balanced. The most commonly used is from directly in front of the stile which gives access into the old church yard. The higher ridges to the east of Church Howle have also been used successfully if difficulties are encountered in staying up after launching near the headlands.
Landing
Top: The grassy area is fairly small, so the best approach is low and for hang gliders, crosswind. There are raised lumps in places close to the edge. As a result landing can be in wind shadow. Be prepared for a fast landing. Bottom: The beach is fine when the tide is out, but watch out for passers-by.
Access and parking
Drive to the cul-de-sac off the most westerly bend of 'The Headlands'. Park on the road. Rig on the grassy area and carry the glider north to the top of the dunes.
Forecasts are planning aids, not safety clearance. Check current observations, official airspace and NOTAM information, local rules and your own experience before every flight.
