About this flying site

Dune flying is somewhat special and due to the strong winds and crowds at these well know spaces it is not really suitable for beginners. Often even experienced mountain pilots have problems at the beginning so practice strong wind launches and handling your wing over slippery and steep terrain - you will need it or make a fool of yourself.

Take-off

The take-off is very crowded in the summer and there are many beach houses blocking access to the dunes, so you need to walk for a while before the houses stop. There is also a fence nowadays. Use the small space where the houses stop and the fence starts. This WILL be crowded in nice summer days! Climbing over the fence at other areas is prohibited and may cause a fine.

Landing

You can land anywhere on the beach but you need to watch out for other beach guests. Near the entry points to the beach it is too crowded and disturbing the other beach visitors will give trouble.

Access and parking

There are signs pointing you towards the beach entrance from Wijk aan Zee centrum.

Local weather notes

Strong wind and lower classed wings have only a small useable wind window. Too much and you get easily blown over the back. There are also sections in the dune who form nice venturis with low lift.

Flight rules

Mostly only tolerated, keep that in mind! Check the dune soaring info flyer from the dutch paragliding association.
