Take-off
1min walk below the Plan Praz cableway station.
Take off towards the tower.
Landing
So called 'green area' down in the valley, with the green circles and asphalted running way around it.
Be extremely careful - there is a high tension power line crossing the west fraction of the landing field, and it is pretty high and barely visible from the air. They connect the house south from the field with the power line attached at the motorway.
Loose your altitude on one of the sides and then enter the field only for the base and final legs. It is suggested to visit the LZ before flying if you fly for the first time.
Alternatively, there is a nice field just 200m to the west from the official LZ, just next to the house with the hexogonal roof (NE from the big white church). There is also a windsock. It is on private land but its ok to land there. Coordinates: 45.725364,7.286145
In summer (april-august) after the noon this landing may not be usable due to very strong valley breeze.
You must top-land at Plan Praz, but then it is better to take off from Chamole or Couis 1 sites.
GRESSAN 'GREEN AREA' NOT USABLE (ATZ AOSTA, WAITING FOR NOTAM), USE SARRE LANDING 45.712095, 7.251011 (BETTER TAKE OFF CHAMOLE')
Access and parking
Getting to takeoff:
Take cableway from Aosta (behind the railway station), and get off at Plan Praz station (2nd intermediate station). The takeoff is just 50m towards the valley on the western side of cables when you get off.
Cableway open 8-18 in summer.
Single ride - 3 EUR.
Going back from LZ to Aosta cableway station:
1) walking. approx 45min
2) bus line nr 5. Walk to the nearby stop located here: 45.723418,7.298856 (11mn walk from LZ), bus passes at XX:18 and XX:48 of every hour, ticket 1 EUR from driver.
Local weather notes
No flying with strong northerlies and foen winds. Extrelemly turbulent and dangerous.
Do not fly in the central valley in summer months' afternoons - the valley breeze is likely to be too strong for paraglidier.
Check the wind speed and direction before you descent down in the valley.
Flight rules
Landing site is on the limit of Aosta airport ATZ. DO not fly east from the imaginary line connecting takeoff and landing. Their circuit is actually over Aosta and used also for glider traffic on final, and the airspace has to be strictly respected.
Forecasts are planning aids, not safety clearance. Check current observations, official airspace and NOTAM information, local rules and your own experience before every flight.
