Planning information for Monte Cairo (Monte Cassino)
About this flying site
Suggestion for a small getting-know the area XC flight with southern winds. Take off, gain the altitude to the right of the takeoff, climb the crest until the top of Mt Caira (16XXm), then fly south to the Abbey of Monte Cassino (very spectacular), then return towards landing or takeoff.
Take-off
(N41.5347, E13.8297)
A big large and smooth field, suitable also for beginners.
The takeoff field is reachable by a 3min walk through the forest from the parking place on the Terelle road (N41.547685, E13.810087).
As far as known, there is no permanent shuttle bus at the site, but as it is often used by schools, tandem pilots etc., finding a ride up should not be major issue.
Unconfirmed information says there also regular buses going passing Caira and going up to Terelle, which would be perfect for going up.

Access and parking
Most likely you are arriving from Roma or Naples on motorway A1. Take exit 'Cassino' and follow the SS630 which becomes a SS509 few kilometers later. At approximately 10km from the motorway exit, after leaving town of Cassino on your left, exit the elevated highway and follow the directions to Caira.
Forecasts are planning aids, not safety clearance. Check current observations, official airspace and NOTAM information, local rules and your own experience before every flight.
