About this flying site

Snaefell offers a 1086 foot top to bottom. The tram to the top is available in the summer months otherwise there’s a 1 Km walk up from the Bungalow tram station. Take off to the north west over the tram lines. The south end seems to work best. There are plentiful top landing options and huge bottom landings towards the reservoir. Look out for concealed rocks on take off especially on low wind days. Some of the best thermalling on the island is found here on light wind days. House thermal for this site is in the valley below the A14 Tholtywill rd, to the westsouthwest. This works in all wind directions, even when taking off from the east side. Transitions are also possible to North Barrule (to the northeast) with little or no height above launch with a reasonable performance glider, from either east or west side take-off.
