Take-off

Steep take off with rocks and boulders which increase with height, so be selective in choosing where to launch.

Landing

Watch out for cars encroaching on the landing field.

Access and parking

Car park OS grid ref: NY351344 Take the main A66 Keswick to Penrith road. If travelling from Keswick, take the left turn onto the Mungrisedale road. If travelling from Penrith, take the right turn onto the Mungrisedale Road having passed the turning onto the A5091 to Dockray. Follow the minor road through the small hamlets of Mungrisedale and Mosedale. Two kilometres beyond Mosedale the road forks at a triangular patch of land. The parking area is off the left hand side of the road at this fork. Please be considerate of others and park fairly close together. Getting to takeoff From the parking area, walk straight ahead to the fell crossing an area of boggy ground to reach the foot of the fell. There are a few sheep tracks that can be followed as you pick your way across the, often steep, broken ground. Permission to use site LDNPA / Caldbeck Commoners

Hazards and cautions

  • Winds at the site can be appreciably stronger over the top; keep well forward if in doubt.
  • Beware of rocks when slope landing.
  • The site can become turbulent if the wind goes off to the south of east. If getting blown back then track off to the north.
