Camou, Pian San Giacomo is a paragliding launch in the Swiss Alps. Its recorded elevation is 1,348 m and its mapped launch aspects are S, SW. Compare the live forecast at launch with winds aloft, gusts, cloud base, rain and daylight before checking current local access and airspace information.
This spot works better for late hours (depending on the season). Best takeoff time between april and august is after 15 anyway. By low wind conditions it is also possible to land in Cebbia, Mesocco, but you normally do not need it as in summer the left flank of the mountain is ALWAYS pulling you up :) Please only land there by low wind conditions! Landing there with 20kmh headwind leads you to a potentially very dangerous lee side landing! By normal conditions (max 10kmh headwind), there should be no problem, though. If you fly direction south (see Brion in photos) after takeoff be careful of the south wind. It's flyable but sometimes it gets bumpy. This landing spot is lee side of the little hill in front of it.
Take off is possible right over the water station. The best solution is nevertheless to take off from the lawn at the end of the street, beneath the trees. This avoids taking off with side wind.
This is an official landing spot. We have agreements with the gentle farmer there. Please be respectful! Just land an pack your wing. Ground handling is strictly to be avoided! Try to find a spot where the grass is not too high, and avoid landing right in the center of the lawn. Thank you!
Access to the take off is possible by car, anyway you should really avoid to drive up, because the road is only ment for the people who have a property there. We strongly advise to park at the Ristorante Posta (closed). There you can find many public parking slots. From there walk 20 min to Ghifa/Camou. It is healty and allows you to better look at the current wind conditions.
This is a good spot to fly in the afternoon. It is possible to do soaring or thermal flying. Best conditions are to be experienced during late spring and during summer. Watch out for storms in summer. This is an alpine area. The weather can change quiet quickly and sometimes the weather forecasts aren't fully trustable, because of the near, north end of the alpine chain. Always carefully plan your flights in function of the weather conditions. If you don't know what to do, contact us.
