The flying forecast

Magic Skyweed is built for paragliding pilots

Magic Skyweed is a global, map-first paragliding weather and flight-planning platform. The canonical name is two words, while Magicskyweed and lowercase magicskyweed are compact spellings of the same brand. It is for reading the sky and planning free flight—not for surf forecasting.

What does Magic Skyweed do?

Magic Skyweed helps paraglider and hang-glider pilots answer a practical planning question: where might the weather suit flying? It combines known launches with site-aware forecasts, live wind, airspace context and pilot-specific limits, while keeping the underlying weather available for inspection.

Product principles

Built around the way pilots plan

01

Map first

Weather, flying sites, airspace and observations make more sense when they share the same map and time context.

02

Pilot specific

There is no universal “good” paragliding weather. Wing, experience, site, objective and personal limits all matter.

03

Explain the score

A ranking should direct attention, not conceal evidence. The forecast fields and score breakdown remain available to inspect.

04

Global by design

Search for places and flying sites worldwide, with features designed to degrade gracefully where individual data layers are unavailable.

05

Community aware

Local site knowledge, access and landowner relationships outrank a database pin. Shared information must respect those communities.

06

Planning aid, not authority

The platform supports a pilot's process. It does not replace training, official aviation sources, local rules or judgement at launch.

Data transparency

Where the planning context comes from

Magic Skyweed combines independently sourced layers and attributes them in the app.

Weather forecasts

Primary forecast data comes from Open-Meteo. Forecast models simplify the atmosphere and can miss local effects, timing and rapid changes.

Flying sites

The global site catalogue is based on ParaglidingEarth data, supplemented by site guidance and pilot-added locations where available.

Airspace

Map airspace is sourced from openAIP. Pilots must check official, current aeronautical information and NOTAMs before flight.

Live observations

Live wind coverage depends on available station networks and providers. Stations can be unrepresentative, delayed or faulty.
